AP government launched a major initiative aimed at reducing human–wildlife conflict and strengthening wildlife conservation, on World Wildlife Day, Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Forest & Environment launched the ‘Hanuman’ Project to address human-wildlife conflict.
The project — Healing and Nurturing Units for Monitoring, Aid and Nursing of Wildlife (HANUMAN) — has been designed as a comprehensive scientific and technological intervention to protect both wildlife and people living in forest fringe villages.
Key features:
Under Project HANUMAN:
- Government will provide 100 vehicles—93 Rapid Response and seven ambulances—to provide care and medical assistance to wildlife.
- Rescue & Treatment Centres: Four dedicated centres have been established at Visakhapatnam, Rajamahendravaram (Rajahmundry), Tirupati, and Birlut (Bhairluti/Atmakur) to provide long-term care and rehabilitation for injured wildlife.
‘Vajra’ (Wildlife Rakshak) Teams: Village-level volunteer teams trained to handle minor wildlife incursions and snake rescues.
