- Also called Battle of Rakkasagi-Tangadigi โ named after two villages near the battlefield
- Combatants: Four Deccan Sultanates (Bijapur, Golconda, Ahmadnagar, Bidar) vs Vijayanagara
- Vijayanagara king: Aliya Rama Raya (regent for young king)
- Outcome: Vijayanagara decisively defeated; Aliya Rama Raya captured and beheaded
- Aftermath: Hampi was sacked and destroyed; capital shifted to Penukonda
- Vijayanagara Empire continued weakly until 1646 CE but never recovered its glory
๐ Causes of Vijayanagara’s Decline
- Nayankara system weakness: Nayakas became too powerful and independent
- Dependence on imported horses: Disrupted by Deccan Sultanates controlling trade routes
- United Deccan Sultanates: For the first time, all four Sultanates united against Vijayanagara
- Aliya Rama Raya’s arrogance: He interfered in Deccan Sultanate politics โ united them against him
- Mughal pressure: Mughals were expanding southward
