Why in News?
Telangana government has implemented major reforms in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC). The expansion includes merger of 27 Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) and restructuring of administrative units.
Key Highlights:
ULB Merger: 27 Urban Local Bodies merged into GHMC
- 7 Municipal Corporations (e.g., Nizampet, Boduppal, Badangpet)
- 20 Municipalities (e.g., Shamshabad, Manikonda, Tellapur)
Territorial Expansion:
- From ~650 sq km → 2,053 sq km
Population Coverage:
- Over 1.34 crore people
Administrative Restructuring:
- Zones: 6 → 12
- Circles: 30 → 60
Ward Delimitation:
- Wards: 150 → 300
- Each ward represents ~50,000 people
